Annael Sort-Montenegro

Annael earned a Master's degree in Chemistry and Physics, with a specialisation in Chemistry and Bioengineering, from the Graduate School of Chemistry, Biology and Physics (ENSCBP) in Bordeaux, France, in September 2019. During her studies, she completed a five-month internship at the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films (LPICM) at École Polytechnique, France, where she developed biosensors to monitor the wine-making process. In her final year, she undertook a six-month internship at Johnson & Johnson Santé Beauté France, focusing on the discovery and development of biomimetic solutions for consumer self-care products.

In 2024, she completed her PhD under the supervision of Professor Larisa Florea, focusing on movement generation under the application of an electric field. Her research explored the electrotaxis of droplets and 3D-printed electro-responsive hydrogels. She is currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Florea Group, contributing to the development of sensors for the SMARTHEAL implant.
